It’s July 4th and Victor Luis is standing beside his blue bicycle outside Orlando Latin Market, people watching under a camouflage boonie hat. The Cuban native says he moved to St. Petersburg three years ago after leaving Iowa. It was too cold, he shares.
Living now in the Sunshine State allows him to dress on this holiday in a white undershirt and cargo shorts.
“Estoy festejiando el 4 de julio,” Luis says, his eyes twinkling from behind glasses as a grin spreads on his face.
He plans to spent Independence Day partying.
“Right now I’m going to the beach. I’m going to drink two or three beers and I don’t know how I’m going to get home,” Luis says. “Someone’s taking me home later.”
He nods, hops on his bicycle and rides away.
